Pattern 1908 Battle Order
Your battle order is your basic webbing. It is designed for you to be able to carry everything you need to fight effectively and survive in combat for a few days out of supply. your ammunition is carried in your left and right pouches, along with your bandoleer. You also carry your bayonet, entrenching tool and helve, and your water bottle attached to your belt. Lastly is your small pack, contents outlined here, which has rations and other survival kit inside, along with your mess tins attached to the outside. The small pack was originally always worn along your left side over your bayonet and helve, but was the war progressed, most men began wearing them attached to your shoulder buckles in place of your march pack while in battle.

Pattern 1908 March Order
Your march order is not worn in combat, instead only when on the move. It was sometimes carried into the trenches and kept in trench stores or company headquarters. You only kept extra equipment inside, which included your carry all, your great coat or jerkin, extra rations, and any other equipment not immediately need but important enough to not leave in battalion stores. The pack was attached using two buckles on the shoulder area of your brace straps. You would also have to "valaise" straps that would attach to tabs on your ammo pouches to keep the pack tight to your back. These were later used to attach ones helmet to their pack.
